January 01, 2003 - 2:19 a.m. Happy New Year everybody! My New Year's Eve was about as depressing as it gets... I guess I should be happy I'm able to write... it could be a helluva lot worse! Before I update you on other things, let me just say that I've started a new fashion trend for '03 (yes, let's hear it 'OH THREE") It's actually an old style that hasn't been "in" EVER... it's that becoming style that is taking the two points of Kleenex (or Puffs, or store brand) and SHOVING them up each nostril. I never claimed to be a fashion-plate, kids... I'm doing it more because i am not so much into snot. This fine New Year's Day, I'm suffering from a bit of nasal drippage. I called the number for my doctor to get some meds, but they acted like he was like... NOT a medical doctor... they said the offices were closed til Thursday... does that mean he doesn't get my message til then? What a bunch of losers. If someone's sick, can't they get a message through when the office is closed? What is this Mayberry? Oh well, it's just as well... I'll go to Rite Aid tomorrow and get some drugs and then fill my prescription for "The Pearls" so i don't hack up a lung. The Pearls... as i call them... are a breakthrough in the calming of the constant hack that comes with chronic bronchitis. They are these little teeny weeny gel cap thingies that you swallow (be sure to do this with plenty of water - you don't want them to open on your throat) and it must have some sort of ambesol-esque liquid in there that numbs your chest. So you don't get that tickle in your chest that makes you cough til you pee in your pants. I'm telling you - it's great! So, I spent the evening sleeping, watching tv, downloading songs from a "service", doing a bit of AOL Trivia room, sniffling and coughin'. Joe was nice enough to go get me some liquids (Diet Coke and Aquafina, yay!) And my mom brought over a variety of nasal thingamajigs supposed to aid in quick recovery PLUS a big-ass bottle of Martinelli's apple juice. Since I moved in, about a month ago, I've changed my room around a lot. Hopefully, I'll get my crap together and start posting pix of the new pad. My mom bought me a digital camera. I am now the designated photographer of the family. I got some new stuff at IKEA yesterday. New shelves (Trofast), 2 tv trays, a step stool... I put my stereo in the living room cuz Joe's stereo is kinda buggin' lately. I also have my DVD player out there. It's quite the cool little place. Oh and we ate hot links cooked on the new George Foreman Grill! Yay! It's really shapin' up. Frida is even starting to dig it more. When I was in the Trivia Room tonight, I came to the realization that 2002 was sorta icky. Did anything good happen in 2002 that i'm forgetting? I went to New York City and that was of course cool, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a mental image of "Cool Shit in '02" Lots of people died. I got the year- end Entertainment Weekly and read the tribute section. I'm still finding it hard to believe that Joe Strummer is dead. I was never as big a Clash fan as i felt I should have been... but really, what an impact they made on the music world. Much smarter than The Sex Pistols, they were really what UK punk was to me. They were more politically active than most US punk bands. Joe Strummer should be more important to every music fan than Kurt Cobain. Jenny blogged how much music and lyrics mean to her. Music and lyrics mean so much to me, too. I am such the lyric machine. My mind doesn't think without coming up with lyrics to some old song. EVERYTHING can be associated with lyrics. I guess I'll end this with a hopeful lyric: I see a new sun up in a new sky And my whole horizon has reached a new high Yesterday my heart sang a blue song But today hear it hum a cheery new song I dreamed a new dream, I saw a new face And I'm spreading sunshine all over the place With a new point of view here's what greets my eye! New love, new luck, new sun in the sky! --- New Sun in the Sky (Dietz / Schwartz) Okay Kids... i'm outta here for now... Have a great year and be kind!
